CMA CGM TITAN CHRISTENED AT DUNKIRK
24th may 2011

Bapteme Titan

On 24 May the container carrier CMA CGM TITAN was christened at the Flanders Terminal of Dunkerque-Port, in the presence of its godmother the MEDEF President Laurence Parisot, Jacques R. Saadé, CEO of CMA CGM, and Martine Bonny, Chair of Dunkerque-Port's Executive Committee.

For CMA CGM, the third-ranking container shipping company in the world and the leader in France, the christening of CMA CGM TITAN in the Port of Dunkirk "reaffirms the Group's drive to restore France and its port terminals to their position on the international shipping scene. With five regular services from the Caribbean, Asia, Panama and Morocco, the Group generates more than 70% of the total volume handled in the Terminal, so that Dunkirk is now the third port in France for container volumes".

Laurence Parisot praised "the French shipping company's risk-taking and entrepreneurial spirit".

Martine Bonny was particularly pleased that the christening was being held in Dunkirk: "An event like this is a highlight in the history of a port. For us, it is an opportunity to stress our close partnership with CMA CGM, a loyal client of the Port of Dunkirk. In this very place, during the inauguration of the container terminal, we indicated that the Port's directors intended to make every effort to develop its competitiveness, particularly by enlarging its hinterland through efficient consolidated pre-routing and on-forwarding facilities. I would like to take this opportunity to report on the excellent figures for container traffic in the Port of Dunkirk, which are growing significantly: up 28%  at the end of April. These good results are due to the high level of activity of the Port's major lines. More generally, the total traffic to the end of April is also encouraging for the Port. Dunkerque-Port has seen growth of 11% compared with last year. We therefore welcome the TITAN for its christening under the best auspices possible!"
