UNIFEEDER LAUNCHES NEW SERVICE TO RUSSIA FROM THE PORT OF DUNKIRK - Vignet

The Danish shipping company UNIFEEDER, based in Aarhus, will start up a weekly service from Dunkirk to St Petersburg beginning of November.

UNIFEEDER operates the best connected and largest feeder network in Northern Europe. It already covers 39 ports in Northern Europe, and Dunkirk will bring the total to 40.

Increased focus on Green CO2 friendly transportation.
That Shortsea transportation is a more environmentally friendly solution compared to moving goods on train or road has long been known. More and more companies are looking for greener solutions, which makes Shortsea the perfect alternative with substantially lower CO2 emission than trucks. Also, France as a country shows an increased green focus with the introduction of the new ECO-tax on all French road transports.

UNIFEEDER will assign two ships to the rotation and will offer a wide range of equipment, consisting of dry containers, reefers, and 45 ft palletwide containers, making conversion of trailer to container very simple that can load 33 pallets, i.e. the equivalent of an articulated vehicle.

With its northern European network, UNIFEEDER will also offer transport solutions from Dunkirk to UK, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Baltics, Norway, Latvia and Poland.

Christine Cabau Woehrel, Chair of the Executive Committee of Dunkerque-Port, is delighted with this decision: «UNIFEEDER is a leading operator in European shortsea shipping, and its interest in the port of Dunkirk testifies to the dynamism of the port community and its development potential on the fastgrowing intra-European market. This new service is fully in line with our twofold goal for development: to broaden the shortsea transport offer, and  contribute to the development of the temperature-controlled product sector. The arrival of a major shipping company such as UNIFEEDER, allowing Dunkirk to access its large network of connections to a multitude of European destinations, is a crucial opportunity for the region’s industries seeking suitable maritime transport solutions via the port of Dunkirk.»
