On leaving Rosslare Europort (Republic of Ireland) for Dunkerque on 2 January 2021, the "Optima Seaways" officially launched the new Ireland-France freight ferry line by DFDS SEAWAYS. This specific route allows exporters and freight forwarders to keep their transport within the European Union and to avoid the customs formalities that apply to transport passing through the British landbridge.
On the night of December 4 to 5, the CMA CGM “Champs Elysées”, powered by LNG (liquefied natural gas), arrived in Dunkerque-Port for its first call to a French port.
As of 2 January 2021, DFDS will start a new daily ro-ro service, connecting the ports of Dunkerque and Rosslare (Republic of Ireland).
CONTAINERSHIPS, a short-sea shipping company present in the port of Dunkerque since 2013, has decided to expand its shipping services, as of Thursday, 19 November 2020, with the launch of a service from and to the Republic of Ireland.
In order to meet the significant increase in electricity needs in the industrial-port zone of Dunkerque and to participate in the economic attractiveness of the territory, Enedis and RTE (Réseau de Transport d'Electricité) have joined forces with Dunkerque-Port and the Dunkerque Metropolitan Authority in order to build an electrical substation "in advance" in record time, a highly innovative approach. The purpose: to allow future manufacturers to quickly establish themselves in the area concerned. Work has started for commissioning of the substation scheduled for summer 2021.
