As of Wednesday 27 January, the "MV Drotten", sistership of the "MV Visby", will now call at the DFDS Seaways ro-ro terminal on the Dunkerque-Rosslare service (Ireland).

The “Drotten”, 196 meters long with a sailing speed of 29 knots, replaces the “Optima Seaways”, one of the three ferries that took part in the launch of this new line on January 2 and which is now resuming its activity in the Baltic Sea. The ship will allow the DFDS company to increase its capacity.

The route provides exporters and transport companies with a direct, paperless journey for lorries between the Republic of Ireland and other countries of the European Union, implying lower costs, less waiting time as well as the possibility of avoiding the customs procedures which now apply to transport via the British "landbridge".

European carriers are responding highly favourably to this new post-BREXIT offer tailored to meet their expectations.

Indeed, since its first port call in Dunkerque on January 2, the service has totalled more than 3,500 freight units and should reach, without additional resources, the encouraging figure of 10,000 units at the beginning of March.

For Daniel Deschodt, Interim Chairman of the Executive Board: “Dunkerque-Port, with the particularly efficient services of DFDS, is clearly strengthening its position as a hub to and from the British Isles, for both continental and international traffic."
