On Sunday 29 May the passenger liner Astoria, arriving from Tilbury, called at the Port of Dunkirk, where 380 passengers disembarked and 420 new passengers came on board.

Built in 1948 by the Götaverken shipyard in Sweden, the Astoria was refurbished several times to increase its structures and capacity, in 1952, 1955 and 1956.

After repairs it resumed service, and has had many changes of name and company. It became the Astoria in 2016 and now sails for Rivages Du Monde (RDM), which offers 15 outstanding sea cruises.

The award of the City's medal took place during a ceremony held on board the liner, attended by Deputy Mayor Jean-Yves Frémont, representing the City of Dunkirk.
