After starting a new waterway container service between Dunkirk and Valenciennes in May this year, NORD PORTS SHUTTLE (NPS) is gearing up for a significant increase in its transport capacity on the Dunkirk to Dourges line. This initiative is a response to fast-growing demand: in June NPS again beat a monthly record for traffic to and from Dunkirk, with nearly 2,800 TEU.
In line with the commitments of the PA2D (Sustainable Development and Action Plan), Dunkerque-Port has just received the EcoPorts network's PERS certification (Port Environmental Review System), granted by the ESPO (European Sea Ports Organisation).
Dunkerque-Port is a major player in goods transport and the economy of the Hauts-de-France region. It enjoys an ideal geographic location in norther Europe on one of the world's busiest seaways, large land reserves, and a potential market of 80 million consumers; as well, its good accessibility and high-quality infrastructures enable it to berth very large ships such as latest-generation container carriers.
Since its launch in October 2013 the combined waterway transport service NORD PORTS SHUTTLE (NPS) has continued to grow. Originally plying between Dunkirk, Lille LCT and Dourges LDCT, the service had already been extended to the port of Béthune last November.
The French group SNF Floerger is a global player in the chemicals industry. For the last three years, including one year of intense technical studies, it has been studying the possibility of setting up a new production plant in the Port of Dunkirk, and it has now taken a decisive step in making its investment decision.
